The ultimate 6 ingredients nutritious snack

Taking in enough calories can be a grueling feat to accomplish when you train heavily for hours at a time and live an active lifestyle.

It’s also challenging to find high-calorie snacks that are nutritious. Don’t get me wrong, there are plenty of high-calorie snacks out there, but it’s hard to find ones that make you feel good about eating them.

Athletes find themselves in this conundrum frequently since they are usually on-the-go. However, these naturally sweetened and nutrient dense energy bites could be the delectable solution to this problem.

I was first introduced to this recipe during my 7:30am “Eating for Sports Performance” food lab at the University of Cincinnati. It was there that our professor, who was also the Sports Dietitian for the university, taught us how to make these nutritious little snacks.

As a peanut butter and chocolate lover myself, I was hooked on this snack. I knew I needed to recreate it and tweak it to be the ultimate DIY energy boost.

The combination of chocolate and peanut butter with a pinch of sea salt is enough to satisfy any sweet craving. Not only are they delicious and easy to make, but they also have whole grains, organic ingredients, and are protein rich. The added protein is a grass-fed whey protein isolate rich in L-Glutamine, L-Leucine, L-Isoleucine and L-Valine which all aid in repairing muscle tissue.

These energy bites are a quick and easy snack that you can’t go wrong with, so let’s get into the recipe!
