Expert Sweat Testing Guidance & Analysis

Work with a certified sports dietitian to sweat test, analyze your results, and come away with a foolproof nutrition plan and custom-tailored nutrition formulas based on your data.

We recommend wearing a patch during a sweat-inducing workout, ideally running or cycling, lasting at least 45 minutes in duration. After your workout is complete, a post-workout summary in the Nix App provides intel that can help inform your hydration strategy going forward.

Starter Kit includes a rechargeable pod, a charging case, charging cord, and 4 sweat patches (refills available here).

*You must be actively sweating for the device to gather data.

Ok for post analysis but not for workouts

The app and the pod are difficult to keep paired. It takes some playing around with so allow time before your workout since the patches are single use and you can't actively play with it because a patch has to be attached for it to work. Once you start a workout it can't be stopped and resumed. I paired with Garmin and tried to start it from my workout but didn't work. Maybe user error but directions and FAQ don't provide much detail. I also learned if you start a workout from the app and what I thought was paused it until I was ready to ride that it kept running in the background so it collected 16min of data while I was waiting on others to start. I learned to not stop the workout in the app until you stop on garmin and save because it will overwrite your planned workout in Training peaks and doesn't actually record anything but time. The app and pod integration needs work to sync with garmin and training peaks. I also found it would not "announce" when I needed to drink. It shows on the screen but that requires looking at the phone. I thought it would "announce" over my airpods like the workout does via my garmin and phone. The sweat analysis was very similar to the Levelen sweat test I had taken. This is good for post workout analysis but not good for those looking to use to ensure you are staying up on hydration, especially when cycling. Since the pods are not waterproof they are useless for triathlon unless you take time in T1 to place it, sync it, and start it. I do think it is a good product for checking your hydration strategy periodically.

Product Questions

I’m a 73 year old aircraft mechanic/tech in East/Central Florida where 6-months out of the year, humidity is greater than 90%, and heat index ranges from mid-90’s to 125! During the four hottest months, I average 1.25 gallons of water/diluted hydration drink per day and I’m still chronically dehydrated! Will this system help me during these hotter months?
Question by: Terry Southern on Dec 16, 2023, 4:13 AM
Thanks for your question. Yes, the Nix Biosensor can definitely be used for workplace conditions that result in high sweat rates and electrolyte losses that lead to dehydration. The Nix Biosensor will help you determine how much you are sweating which will help you determine how much you need to drink to minimize the effects of dehydration. Let us know if you have any other questions.

Hello. Does this analyze the volume of sweat, salt concentration in sweat, or both? I understand that a person can sweat a lot but not necessarily lose salt.

Thank you
Question by: Wesley Hinkle on Feb 29, 2024, 4:50 PM
The Nix Biosensor measures your total and hourly sweat rate, your total and hourly electrolyte loss, and your electrolyte composition (mg/oz). It does not specifically measure sodium/salt loss but we can extrapolate the electrolyte loss to provide a sodium/electrolyte recommendation based on your results.

And yes, actual electrolyte composition can vary widely from person to person and you can be a heavy sweater but have a lower electrolyte loss. The Nix Biosensor would be a great way to find that out.

I did triathlons from 40-54 years old, and am now 60 and want to get back into tri's again. This SOUNDS like a game changer for me - I always have issues with my calves cramping halfway into the run, and knowing which electrolytes I'm losing and at what rate, would probably make all the difference in the world. So does this give me that information? I see it tracks my "sweat". But I don't see that it specifically measures the amounts of sodium, magnesium, and potassium, although that seems to be what I need to have measured accurately.
Question by: John Pegg on Nov 4, 2024, 11:13 AM
The Nix Biosensor measures your total electrolyte loss (sodium, potassium, calcium, magnesium, and chloride) but not each electrolyte individually. This information helps us more accurately determine how much sodium/electrolyte you should be consuming as well as how much you should be drinking to minimize the effects of dehydration.
