This formula is designed for male or female athletes, at any weight, who are returning back to structured training after the off-season break. While you may not need sport nutrition for every workout, this formula is a low sugar (7.5g sugar per 110 calories) to give you sustainable energy throughout your workouts. This formula contains 220 calories per serving, which is perfect for your low intensity longer bike rides. However, you can still use this formula for shorter workouts (swim, bike and run) by simply using 1/2 the serving. You will find 55g carbs per 220 calories, where the majority of those calories come from maltodextrin, which is a high glycemic low osmolality complex carbohydrate, to ensure quick absorption without risking GI issues. The formula contains ~400mg sodium which is a safe amount of electrolyte to keep you hydrated during your indoor sweaty sessions as well as for your outdoor workouts. Each 220 calorie serving contains ~1g Amino acids. BCAA's can be metabolized in the muscles, instead of the liver, which means they may be used as an energy source to help with performance during long or high intensity exercise.
Many athletes swear off sport nutrition products in the "base" phase, but there are times when sport nutrition products will benefit your body, as it relates to health, consistency in training and to help control sugar cravings and overeating in the daily diet. Also, for athletes who are not yet comfortable digesting or consuming sport nutrition products during workouts, this is a very easy to tolerate (not-so-sweet) formula to help train the gut, before sport nutrition products are regularly used in training to support the increase in training intensity that athletes experience in more specific race prep training. Lastly, athletes may notice a boost in immune system health with this formula, as research has shown that carbohydrates consumes during high intensity or long training will enhance immune system health.
