Flavor Slider

Flavor is a major component of the overall performance and usability of any sports nutrition product. Most products are made to taste good in a taste testing lab, we all know that the lab…is not real world conditions.

INFINIT Nutrition is the first and only company to let you adjust the strength of your flavor to make it taste how you want all day long. The real test of any product is how does it taste long into a workout and after it gets warm? If the athlete does not want to drink the product because it does not taste good warm, they will not get the calories and electrolytes needed to perform.

The flavor slider lets you customize to your unique personal needs. If you want a stronger flavor simply move the flavor slider to the right (stronger). If you do not tolerate much flavor during your workout move it to the left (weaker). As a point of reference, most other drinks flavor intensity are 80% of the way to the stronger side of the slider. The INFINIT Flavor blend is sucrose (a fast acting easily absorbed carbohydrate source) and 100% all natural flavors. No artificial colors, flavors or sweeteners are used. Some citric is used for our citrus blends.

Helpful hint: Most athletes in our test protocols did not like as much flavor during a long and strenuous workout. Our research also shows that your perception of taste becomes more acute as your workout duration increases. In other words the perception of the strength of flavor increases as your workout/race goes longer. Lower flavors in the beginning taste stronger towards the end. Our suggestion is to keep the flavor in the medium-low to medium ranges to start.

Carbohydrate Slider

This slider allows you to adjust the ratio of simple and complex carbs in your Custom Mix. We use a blend of dextrose (a simple carb) and maltodextrin (a complex carb) to allow you to create a custom nutrition solution to fuel your shorter, high-intensity training and your long distance, endurance efforts.

Numerous studies have found that using a sports fuel that contains multiple carbohydrate sources enables your body to process calories up to 30% more efficiently than single carb products.

Dextrose (another name for glucose) is a fast burning carb. It is easily digested and absorbed by the body, so it's perfect for high heart rate conditions. The "SPEED" (left) side of the slider has a higher percentage of faster burning dextrose for quick energy and explosive efforts.

Maltodextrin is a long chain glucose polymer, which is a slower absorbing carb. Maltodextrin is slower to digest so it provides a more sustained source of energy, which is perfect for endurance efforts. It also has the unique ability to be mixed at higher concentrations while still keeping a low osmolality. It is this unique property that allows INFINIT to pack in more calories while keeping your custom-blended nutrition solution isotonic and lower in sugar than many of our competitors, thus avoiding any potential stomach problems.

The "ENDURANCE" (right) side of the slider uses primarily Maltodextrin as the main source of carbs and calories. The "SPEED" (left) side increases the percentage of dextrose. Adjusting the slider will change the percentage of total dextrose to maltodextrin without changing the total calories of your mix.

Calories Slider

The calories slider allows you to adjust the total number of calories (carbohydrates) per serving in your custom-blended formulation. This enables athletes of different body sizes doing different durations of events to eliminate the need to supplement extra food, bars and gels. Just match the number of calories to your individual needs. The rule of thumb is 2 calories per pound of lean body weight as a starting point. So to figure out the number of calories you need, just take your total weight, subtract body fat and then multiply by two.

INFINIT’s patented Osmo-fit system will accurately calculate your calories for you by answering a few simple questions. To read more about how to calculate calories, read “Calculating Calories” in the INFINIT Nutrition Library.

Electrolyte Slider

Infinit’s exclusive blend of electrolytes is made up of four electrolytes (salts) that match your sweat rate. This is primarily sodium (from all natural sea salt), with potassium, calcium and magnesium. Our electrolytes are the most readily absorbable forms and are pharmaceutical grade. Developed by staff nutritionist Kim Brown MS, RD., this blend of these essential salts gives you everything you need for racing or training. Generally, there is no need to supplement with salt tablets or to juggle pills while running or riding your bike. Unlike most other products, Infinit gives you enough electrolytes to meet your personal goals.

Salts are an important part of transporting fluid out of your gut and into your system. Electrolytes have an effect on flavor, and seem to help people who sweat lots or have problems with cramping, but be warned, the middle setting for Electrolytes on our sliders is not average, it’s actually quite high. Unless you really do crave salt, keep the sodium level around 450 or below on your first custom mix. You can see this level change at the bottom of the chart as you move the slider. That said, as your workouts and competitions get longer, salty tastes become more enjoyable. This is why so many other sports drinks taste too sweet and become less palatable over time.

For most male athletes, 350 mg to 375 mg of sodium is an excellent starting point. Women should try 325 mg to 350. (Note: women are more salt sensitive than men and generally don’t like a more salty drink.) These starting levels are recommended even for athletes that tend to have issues with cramping.

To check the levels on each of the electrolytes, click the “nutrition information” button next the sliders. That will give you the full FDA specs.

Protein Slider

The protein slider allows you to set the amount of protein (if any) you want in your Custom Mix. For endurance athletes, protein is useful as an appetite suppressant.

Whey protein isolate comes standard in Custom Mixes, but we also offer a vegan-friendly plant based protein alternative made of organic sprouted brown rice protein and faba bean protein. Read more about our vegan protein alternative here. You can select the vegan protein on page two when creating your Custom Mix.

We have found it virtually impossible to train or race longer periods (from 3-24 hours) on a straight carbohydrate drink alone. After a few hours athletes can become too hungry and often turn to solid food. Food is far harder for the body to digest and process than liquids, so this can easily lead to potential stomach issues. Protein has a hunger satiating effect, and can keep the endurance athletes from feeling hunger for extended periods of time. We have had countless 24+ hour racers that use their INFINIT mix with protein, with little to no added solid food, with amazing success.

For endurance athletes we generally recommend 4 grams of protein for men (per 20 ounce serving) and 2-3 grams per-serving for woman.

Our premium whey protein isolate and vegan protein blend both contain all the essential amino acids, and our WPI has a 25% higher BCAA (branch chain amino acids) composition compared to many other commonly used proteins. Because of its quick absorption rate, whey is the most commonly used protein by athletes.

Amino Acid Slider

Branched chained amino acids (BCAA) which include L-Leucine, L-Isoleucine, and L-Valine, are essential for aerobic metabolism and may have performance enhancing qualities for endurance events. The INFINIT amino acid slider allows you to add BCAA’s to meet your individual needs. BCAA’s generally do not have much taste, but be aware that high levels of BCAA’s can give your Custom Mix a mildly soapy flavor. Matching the BCAA slider position to the position of your protein slider is a great place to start

During endurance activity, blood BCAA levels decrease as they are taken up by skeletal muscle. This increased uptake in BCAAs by the skeletal muscle triggers the BCAA:tryptophan ratio in your blood to skew in favor of tryptophan (which increases serotonin formation, ultimately enhancing the perception of fatigue). Furthermore, a decline in blood BCAAs may accelerate muscle glycogen depletion, thereby contributing to premature muscle fatigue — AKA"hitting the wall".

Edward Blomstrand, PhD, of Research Laboratories in Stockholm, Sweden discovered that supplementation with three grams of BCAAs helped to maintain adequate BCAA levels, thereby muting the increase in serotonin levels and improving the usage of available fuel and protecting against protein breakdown in 7 highly trained endurance cyclists. Supplementation with 6-8 grams/day of BCAA and glutamine has been shown to decrease protein degradation during ultra-distance triathlon competition; decrease exercise induced muscle damage after prolonged running, and improved performance in 40K cycling time trial performance.

Lastly, BCAA supplementation has been found to have an immuno-enhancing effect, which is important during periods of heavy training and post-competition.

Caffeine Slider

The INFINIT caffeine slider allows you to adjust the amount of caffeine from NONE (far left) all the way to 200mg (far right) per 20 ounce serving. 200mg is the equivalent to 2-3 cups of strong coffee, so be careful not to overdue caffeine. ALWAYS consult with a medical professional about the use of caffeine before adding it to your custom mix.

Caffeine is a stimulant of the central nervous system, which also helps to release free fatty acids from body fat stores into the blood to provide additional fuel for muscles over and above the sugar that is stored in your liver. There is substantive research that shows that caffeine spares the limited supply of muscle glycogen. It seems to be a performance enhancer, as many athletes after ingesting caffeine feel less fatigue while performing at higher levels of work for longer periods of time.

The known diuretic effect of caffeine is unlikely to cause significant dehydration in shorter duration races due to the obvious simultaneous hydration protocol. Caution should always be used when using caffeine in long distance endurance events like Ironman distance Triathlon, Ultra-running or Adventure racing.

Osmolality leads to Absorbtion Ability

INFINIT Nutrition’s exclusive patented process that ensures your unique formulation will work for your body.

Osmolality is a measure of how much “stuff” is in your total nutrition plan. If there is too much “stuff” (remember it's the combination of ALL your drink, food, gels and any salt pills), the solution in your gut will be too dense and your body will treat it like you just ate a ham sandwich. Your system will attempt to process it diverting blood and water from your muscles, resulting in gastric distress, dehydration, cramping, and possibly a DNF.

Fluids supplied with osmolality much above 300mosm/kg, (i.e. hypertonic solutions), cause not only delays in gastric emptying but also more importantly will cause fluid shifts from the body to the gut before absorption occurs. Such delays in rehydration introduce the real potential to delay and reduce performance. (Alonso, 1998, Hargreaves, 1991, Sowka et al, 2000).

Green (< 300 mosm/kg) indicates that your custom mix is isotonic, will cause you no stomach distress and leads to the ultimate in absorbtion ability.

Yellow (between 300 and 325 mosm.kg) indicates a marginally hypertonic solution. The absorbtion ability is not as good as an isotonic solution, the addition of some water to dilute may be a good idea.

Red (> 325 mosm/kg) indicates a hypertonic solution and caution should be exercised. The addition of water is reccomended or the absorbtion ability of the athlete may be compromised.

NOTE: To reduce the osmolality you can either move the carbohydrate slider to the right or reduce electrolyte or flavor to make the perfect mix.

INFINIT's patented Osmo-fit system puts all of your hydration, calories, electrolyte and proteins in one simple isotonic form that is virtually impossible to mess up. Simplicity is the key for consistency and achieving your goals. You can have the best ingredients in the world but if they are too highly concentrated, or the mix is wrong, you might as well be trying to compete while eating a cheeseburger.

Sodium

INFINIT’s exclusive blend of electrolytes is made up of four electrolytes (salts) that match your sweat rate. This blend is primarily sodium from all natural sea salt (along with potassium, calcium and magnesium). Since sodium is the primary electrolyte used for most hydration products, it’s the component that we highlight on the sliders. It also will help you compare INFINIT to any other product in the market today.

As athletes we know it, what tastes good on your kitchen is NOT what tastes good long into a 3 hour workout in the heat. Most sports drinks are too sweet. INFINIT will give you the perfect flavor intensity that will taste great all day long, at the end of your longest race or workout and even when it gets warm… guaranteed.

Men and woman are different. Woman are more salt sensitive and tend to hold water more than men. Men tend to be leaner and have more muscular body weight, so they need more calories than woman. The Osmo-fit system takes all these factors into account when creating the perfect amount of electrolyte and calories for your custom-blended nutrition solution.

As we age our % of lean body weight changes as well. The Osmo-fit system accounts for your age to create the perfect blend of calories and electrolyte for your stage of life.

The Osmo-fit system takes your sport of choice into account when creating the perfect nutrition blend just for you. Do multiple sports? Just pick the one that is your primary. *Note to Triathletes – the nutritional demands of biking and running are very different. One of the keys to preventing cramping is to stay hydrated. Electrolyte is a transporter of fluids to clear your gut and keep you hydrated. The Osmo-fit system will give you the perfect amount of sodium, potassium, calcium and magnesium so you can eliminate the need for all the salt pills. Another important factor in hydration is taste. Other drinks are too strong and too sweet making them hard to consume. Because your mix will still taste good long into your day, you will drink more and stay hydrated without any cramping issues.

Salt on the outside is not necessarily a bad thing. Being “crusty” actually shows that salt and liquids are moving. Electrolyte is a transporter of fluids to clear your gut and keep you hydrated. The Osmo- fit system will give you the perfect amount of sodium, potassium, calcium and magnesium so you can eliminate the need for all the salt pills.

Some athletes (especially woman) hold water and can get puffy the day after a long workout or race. INFINIT Nutrition believes that protein's primary value to athletes is to act as an appatite suppressant. It allows you to go very long periods of time without getting hungry. This in and of itself is a HUGE benefit. Protein does not have to be at a 4 to 1 ratio as claimed by some companies. Serious athletes have difficulty processing large amounts of protein per serving at an elevated heart rate leading to gastric distress and uncomfortable bloating. Most athletes seem to do well with between 2 and 6 grams of protein per serving (a ratio of 10/20 to 1 of carbs to protein). It is our belief that a much lower amount of protein still carries the same benefits of increased performance; better recovery times and keeps you less hungry without the potential problems.

INFINIT uses an ultra-high quality whey protein isolate of domestic origin (not cheaper proteins from India or China) that is > 90% free of lactose and incredibly stable in the heat. Because whey is derived from milk, some people can get a little gassy if they are lactose intolerant. While this can be entertaining on a long bike ride, it generally should be avoided. The Osmo- fit system takes your level of sensitivity to lactose into account to create the perfect custom- blended nutrition solution.

The INFINIT Osmo-fit system will add caffeine if you choose this option. ALWAYS consult with a medical professional about the use of caffeine before adding it to your custom mix.
