Editor’s note: Christine McKnight has been using Infinit Nutrition since 2013, when she completed the Ironman World Championships in Kona in the 65-69 age group. She lives in Saratoga Springs, N.Y.

As an older triathlete, I make fueling the centerpiece of my preparations for longer events like the 70.3 and full Ironman (140.6) distances. That’s because I know I’m going to be out there battling the course and the elements longer than many younger athletes. A mistake in fueling can spell the difference between a podium finish and disaster.

Infinit Nutrition has dramatically simplified my race day fueling strategy, helping me qualify for the Ironman World Championships in Kona, where I was on the course for 16 hours. It’s played a key role in all of my podium finishes since then.

Here’s why I like Infinit Nutrition: you can really dial in your fueling needs. On race day, I feel confident because I know I’ve done the training and I’ve practiced my fueling plan during lots of long training days.

Here’s how I used Infinit at Kona in 2013:

  • One Day Before Race: Sipped on 1 to 1 1/2 scoops of custom Infinit bike formula plus water in a 24-ounce bottle during the day. Drank water as needed.

  • Race Morning: Sipped on half to three-quarters of a scoop of Infinit in water bottle before race. Water as needed.

  • Race Day Bike: For first 3 bottles (56 miles): 2 bottles each with 2 scoops Infinit in water. A third bottle with 1 1/5 scoops of Infinit. Tossed my first bottle when consumed and replaced with cold water in first 75 minutes. Used water for rinsing/cooling. Sipped Infinit every 10 minutes. In my Special Needs Bike Bag at the turn in Hawi, I had an additional 3 bottles of Infinit, each with 1 ½ scoops. These liquid calories gave me consistent energy and helped stave off fatigue as I battled head winds on the way back to Kona.

  • Run: Relied almost exclusively on Infinit Napalm, which I mixed with water in two four-ounce flasks tucked into my tri shorts. Drank 2-4 ounces of water at each water stop, located every mile on the course. Picked up more Napalm at the run turnaround in the Natural Energy Lab. Ate an occasional pretzel just to settle my stomach.
